A homebrew world engine
Draw a world, then play in it.
Tome & Quill generates a world map from a seed and lets you walk down into its towns, buildings and battlemaps. Run your campaign inside that world, and give your players a character builder and a tabletop that know where they are.
No account needed to generate a world or build a character. Campaigns and saved worlds need a free sign-in.
For the dungeon master
From a continent to a single room
Every place in your world opens into the next scale down. Keep it all in one world, run a campaign in it, and reveal it to your players a piece at a time.
World map
Coasts, rivers, mountains, forests, realms, roads and towns from a seed. Redraw borders, raise land and found or raze cities; the map redraws around your edits.
Settlement
Every town opens into its own street plan: walls and gates, districts, buildings and the people who live there.
Battlemap
Step into a building or onto a battlefield: a gridded map with tokens, initiative, conditions, fog of war and line of sight, shared with the party when you choose.
For players
Join a campaign
Players see the world only as the DM reveals it. Their characters stay their own and move with them from one campaign to the next.
Join
Open the invite link from your DM and sign in with your email. No password.
Character
Build a D&D 5e character step by step with the 2014 rules or the 2024 preview, level up with a guided wizard, and branch a build to try another path.
Play
Follow the places you have found and the people you have met, keep a journal, and follow the battle on the shared map when the fight starts.
During a session: dice, initiative, encounter budgets, names, NPCs and loot, free in the tools.
